What does RSS mean?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is like a news feed that lets you know when your favorite websites have added new posts and articles. You will need to subscribe to a website's RSS feed to receive such updates and have an RSS reader in which you will be able to read the updates. A few examples of RSS readers are Google Reader and Bloglines. RSS gives you a more simplified and basic version of the website of interest, more of a 'bare bones' version. Many people like this aspect because they can scan all of the information fairly quickly and select the updates they want to read in a jif. Instead of having to 'bookmark' a website or add it to your 'favorite places' and keep checking back for updates on the websites you frequent, RSS will take care of the job by alerting you when there are updates. You can subscribe to my site's RSS feed by clicking the RSS icon towards the top right of the website.

After you have created your website or blog you can sign up for free with Google AdSense. If you get approved you will be able to have relevant ads that are determined by Google displayed on your site. You will get paid a certain amount of money each time one of your visitors clicks on an ad. The more visitors you have the more clicks you are likely to get. This is a great way to begin monetizing your website or blog. You also get to customize the color, size and location of the ads to make them either blend into your site, or stand out on your site. Google AdSense will keep track of all of the clicks you get along with a report of your earnings located conviently on their website. If you have created your free blog with blogger.com they make it very easy to integrate the ads on your blog. Go to your blog's Layout page, click on 'Add a Page Element', then click on 'AdSense' to get started. Good luck with all of your money making!

Comments or No Comments

After you create your blog, which you can do with a free blogging program such as blogger.com, you will have some decisions to make relating to readers being able to comment on your posts. Depending on your blogging platform you will be able to decide if you want to allow your reader's comments to be shown or hidden, or allowed or not allowed. I allow comments here as I believe it is a great way to connect with your readers and to see what they have to say. My blog is still in it's early stages, but I look forward to seeing more and more comments here as time goes by. Some people don't like to allow comments on their blog because they don't want to get comment spam or strange comments from wackos. Blogger has a great solution to this because there is an option to enable comment moderation. If you enable comment moderation blogger will email you when you get a new comment, and you will be able to review the comment before it gets posted on your blog. So, for me I say yes to comments!
